Shams Tabrizi’s Mystical Disposition and His Influence on Mawlana’s Thought
This paper discusses Shams’ mystical disposition and his influence on Mawlana on the basis of the Maqalat, which was composed from accounts of Shams al-Din. Bearing the typi¬cal characteristics of Tariq al-Ishk and al-Shuttar, Shams redirected Mawlana’s under¬standing of piety beyond worship and asceticism, bringing it closer to divine love and attraction. This work is about the main characteristics that influenced the shaping of Shams’ intellect and lifestyle, and the impact of Shams, who is regarded across the Mawlawi tradition as the source of Mawlana’s inspiration for innate secrets, on Mawlana’s style of spiritual training (suluq) Keywords Mawlana, Shams Tabrizi, sayr al-suluq, innate sciences (ilm al-ladun).
