The Metaphor of Donkey in the Masnawî of Mevlana
It is seen that to be referred to metaphorical way of expression very often to express abstract meanings in the fields of Islamic mystic thought and its literature also which deal with as a basic theme a metaphysical universe beyond the physical world and internal universe of man (spiritual/psycholocial structure of man) rather than his external/outward structure. In this context metaphor of donkey was used in Islamic mystic thought generally to express meanings such as self (one’s desires)/ the person who couldn’t keep oneself from psychical virtues/the person who filled his heart and his mind with worldly goods (wealty) and vain and useless talks (speechs) and feelings/ and the scholar who don’t act according to his knowledge. In our this study we are going to seek answers of this basic question: “I wonder if Mawlânâ had used metaphor of donkey in his Masnawî in which meaning?” Our this study is aiming to make a contribution to be understood well better refinements of language which Mawlânâ used and to be interrogated negativ and unjustifiable criticisms which are directed towards him.
