Can the Vizier in the Tale of the Jewish Sultan who Murdered Christians Because of his Fanaticism, Recounted in the Mesnevi, Be Identified as Saint Pavlus?
Mevlâna’s Mesnevî includes many stories. One of them is about a Jewish Sultan who slaughtered Christians because of fanaticism. There have been debates on the identity of this anonymous vizier among the poets. Some argued that it was no other than Saint Pavlus in the tale while others have adopted a neutral position.
