"Physical Sustenance in Sufi Literature. A case-study of a treatise by ʿAbd Allah al-Būsnawīâ€, Lubb al-lubb fī bayān al-akl wa l-shurbâ€,
The topic of nutrition is a topic dealt with in many Sufi books on Sufi terms and manner. It can be mentioned while the following subjects are dealt with : One’s knowing his/herself which includes his body, eating and drinking less/dieting due to ascetism and ascetic austerities, earning lawful/halāl food, Sabr/ forbearance, Shukr/ being thankful to God, Tawakkul/one’s putting his self in God’s hand, fasting, healthy nutrition (physiologically and spiritually). In this article we will examine ʽAbd Allah al-Būsnawī’s (d. 1054/1644) Lubb al-lubb fī bayān al-akl wa-l-shurb after giving some brief preliminary notes on the subject in other Sufi books.
