Munir Derman is a 20th century Sufi, who was born in Trabzon in 1909. After he graduated from Trabzon High School, he applied to the Europe Scholarship Exams organized by the state during the first years of the Republic and he was sent to France to study Psychology in University of Lyon. He graduated from Department of Psychology in three years and later he studied Philosophy in the same university. His dream was to study medicine and to be a doctor therefore he started the School of Medicine in France but his scholarship ended, so he returned back to Turkey and completed the medical school in Ãstanbul University. He also studied religion in El Ezher University in Egypt. He knew Arabic, Persian, French, German and English very well and he wrote academic papers in those languages. He started judo in high school and in France, he went to a Japanese judo club and got black belt, 7 dan diploma. He taught judo voluntarily to people all through his life. Munir Derman was coming from a family where Sufism was practiced strictly. Ahmed Ziyauddin Gumushanevî was his great uncle from his mother's family and Sheik Samil was his great grandfather from his father's family. He was raised by his master Sheik Omer Ãnan Efendi from Bukhara in very young ages. As a Sufi he devoted his life to people's service and died in 1989 in Ankara. Keywords
